College of Communication
Campaign Priorities
The College of Communication is composed of the Schieffer School of Journalism and the departments of Film, Television and Digital Media (FTDM) and Communication Studies. Our Schieffer School of Journalism is emerging as one of the top journalism schools dedicated to preparing professionals in both journalism and strategic communication for the new media world. In 2008, students won awards for the TCU Daily Skiff newspaper, DailySkiff.com and Image magazine as well as first-place honors in the Heineken USA/AAF Public Service Advertising Competition. A Schieffer School team also finished third nationally in the Bateman Competition, the most prestigious national case study competition for public relations students. TCU News Now is an award-winning student newscast.
Students from the Film, Television and Digital-Media department debuted its first television pilot, Fork in the Road, giving them real-world experience in everything from writing scripts and drafting contracts to casting actors and constructing sets. And our Communication Studies department is renowned for research and is home to some of the most productive scholars in the nation.
TCU is creating a new Multiplatform Journalism Lab in the J.M. Moudy Building South. The project will include renovation and expansion of the second floor, providing approximately 15,000 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment. Here students will cross-train and attain expertise in print, television, radio, Web and other evolving media. This facility will house the TCU Daily Skiff, DailySkiff.com, Image magazine, the TCU News Now desk and a radio news desk. The cost for the lab is $4 million.
Your contributions will help with a number of equipment acquisitions that must be made to continue to offer students real-world experience. These include $1 million for HDTV lab upgrades, $500,000 for FM station upgrades and $100,000 for AV, data and access controls. Other significant needs include:
- Endowed faculty support
- Endowed scholarships and fellowships
- Programming support for projects like the Texas Center for Community Journalism and the TCU High School Journalism Workshop.
