Carter Foundation Commitment Spurs Stadium Renovation
The foundation that bears the name of a Fort Worth legend has committed $15 million to lead the effort to renovate a landmark that also bears his name: TCU’s Amon G. Carter Stadium. In upgrading the 78-year-old facility, TCU hopes to create the “Camden Yards” of collegiate football by maintaining Amon G. Carter Stadium’s retro look and vintage charm, following the model of the Orioles’ ballpark in Baltimore.

Initial plans call for preserving the stadium’s lower bowl and replacing the upper decks. While the stadium will have all the amenities of a 21st century sports venue, the new structure will have the ambience of the era in which it was originally constructed.
The project will be split into three phases, including west, east and south side renovations. The west stands will be rebuilt to their current height so that the stadium will have the same presence on campus and in southwest Fort Worth that it does today.
But the fan experience will be vastly improved. “The renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium will provide a tremendous boost for our football program,” says Dr. Danny Morrison, TCU’s athletics director. “We expect the stadium renovation to transform the game-day experience of every Horned Frog fan.”
