Former Wise County Messenger owners make gift for Schieffer School media lab

Honoring their long-standing relationship with TCU’s journalism program, Roy Eaton ’59, and his wife, Jeannine Adams Eaton ’60, former owners of the Wise County Messenger, have made a $100,000 gift in support of the Convergence Lab now under construction at the Schieffer School of Journalism in the College of Communication. The Eaton Family New Media Lab will significantly enhance the Schieffer School’s evolution toward multi-platform journalism.

The Eatons say exciting developments in the College of Communication encouraged their recent gift. “After the school was named for our long-time friend and fellow 50-year graduate Bob Schieffer, we felt it was time to significantly increase our financial support of the College of Communication,” Mr. Eaton, a member of the college’s Board of Visitors, explains. “Now with the hiring of John Lumpkin to head the Schieffer School, we believe TCU is truly on the right path to have the very best journalism education program in the nation.  We plan to continue our financial support to make sure that commitment becomes a reality.”
